Tips for Après-ski, food, drinks & sunshine in Val Gardena!
So you’re booking a holiday to South Tirol? A week of snowboarding or skiing in the Italian mountains? Or perhaps just hiking the beautiful mountains of the Dolomites and having a glass of wine?
I am here to tip you with the best places to take a rest during the day, enjoy the sun, have the best food and drinks, but also where to party with the best ambiance and Après-ski music!
Ortisei
Cafe Val d’Anna / Annatal
Park your car near the Seceda ski-lift and walk to Annatal within 10 minutes to relax in the sun at Cafe Val D’Anna. The place is located right beside the slope and is even great for those who don’t want to or can’t go skiing since you’ll still have a lovely view at the slope and see everyone passing by. The owners are the most lovely persons ever and so are the waiters. Definitely try their Apfelstrudel and have a glass of wine! Oh, and if you go, please give them a big hug from me.
Vinotheque Cërcia
Above Mauritz Keller in Ortisei you can find the wine bar Cërcia, which I personally find wonderful. They are experts in wine. If you would like to taste a local kind of wine then this is where you want to go. A glass of Alto Adige excellent red wine called Lagrein perhaps? Outside you have heath lamps and inside it is lovely to sit as well with the wine decorations everywhere.
Santa Cristina
Snow Bar
Where the party at? At the Snow Bar! Every single day the people skiing down the notorious Saslong slope ski right into the Snowbar as it lays right at the end of the slope. With an outside part to stay in the sun and watch Anton, the owner’s Saint Bernard, run after the people coming down the slope and an inside part where you can hang at the bar and where you will eventually stand on top of the bar. Make sure to tell one of your friends to set an alarm for dinner, otherwise simply order a bauerntoast at the bar!
Maciaconi
Are you looking for a really good Pizza? Look no further! Maciaconi has the best Pizza of Santa Cristina made by Marco the Pizza guy! The selection of wine is great over at Maciaconi too and the service is even greater. With some lovely waiters and waitresses I’d highly recommend you to have a drink and eat a Pizza at Maciaconi.
Selva
Luislkeller
If you’re ending your day of fanatic skiing at Selva, you’ll probably ski right into the Luislkeller Après-ski bar, better known as Luis Keller. The bar, located at the center of Selva, right in front of the last part of the Dantercëpies slope, is a basement full of happy party people who like to make it a long night. Try one of the special cocktails or dance with the ski teachers. You’ll have fun over here, I promise you! Do mind the ski helmets hanging on the ceiling as you Polonaise through the bar.
Plan de Gralba
Piz Seteur
If you’re skiing all day long and you finally make it back somewhere to Val Gardena at the end of the day then you could use a pitstop at Piz Seteur. You can find this giant bar on the slopes, behind the Saslong gondola, the Campinoi gondola and the Piz Sella cable car, but you can also take a direct chairlift from Plan de Gralba simply called Piz Seteur.
Tuesday and Thursday are the most busy afternoons for Piz Seteur as they have two GoGo girls performing outside in their bikini!
Since the guys loved the GoGo girls at Piz Seteur but really preferred me to go instead of them here’s what happened…
Some bartender doing his thing…
Baite hutte Chiavaz
Once you’re up on the slopes it’s great to find a spot where you can sit down, relax and see how everybody else is doing on their skies or snowboard. Chiavaz is a great place where you can sit in the sun, drink and eat something fabulous and see if anyone you met last night at the Après-ski is passing by. The waiters are great and even the owner, who used to be a ski teacher, works behind the bar. The ski lift to Canazei is right in front of the Chiavaz hutte and the popular Piz Seteur is behind it.
And lastly, I want to explain you that all these places are personal favorites of mine. I love their location, their kitchen and their staff. They have treated me always very nicely, very kindly and I’ve always enjoyed all my visits! I wish I was in Val Gardena right now.
What is your favorite place in Val Gardena? Did you ever go to any of the above mentioned?
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
