Life here is one big camping [VIDEO]
I’ve been so busy with my outdoors wintery lifestyle in the Italian Dolomites that I haven’t spent a lot of time on writing… Here most of work and free time all happens outdoors. And the big part that still is indoors is called Après-ski…

Life here is one big camping”,
we said to each other as me and a local friend were eating a Pizza.
It’s amazing how such an area can feel like a camping, since some of the villages are a bit far away from each other. The thing is that after one or two weeks here in Val Gardena you know nearly everyone and wherever you go feels like home. For instance you can enter any Pizzeria in your pajamas and still seriously have a nice conversation with the owner of the place – which sounds funny to me as I’m writing, since I would actually never go to any place in my pajamas in the Netherlands!
I’m working as a guide, so I spend time on my computer for administration and e-mails, but I also spend a lot of time on the road – or on the piste. One of my tasks here is to bring the ski passes to the hotels and I try to do this as much as possible on my snowboard. It’s really a great thing; to be able to bring my backpack, strap on my board and do my work.
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
