Leaving Karpathos by ANEK lines ferry
From Karpathos to Athens by Ferry
Most tourists will come to Karpathos by plane. SkyExpress and Olympic Air are two examples you can fly with. When the airlines are fully booked and when you simply don’t like the time schedule, you might be interested in going by boat. By ferry that really is.

Travels by ferry
In case you’re already on the island of Karpathos and still need to organize a way away from the rock then the ferry could be a good option. It takes about 24 hours to travel from Karpathos to Athens by ferry, but it’s comfortable and quite a pleasant journey where you can stare into the sea and see some other harbors.

How are the cabins
Cabin tickets are about 103 euro per person and they usually have two separate beds in these cabins. There are cabins called external which face the ocean and cabins called internal which have no sea-view at all. Book on time because the external ones will be booked first. Inside the so-called LUX cabins you get some nice Rakomelo liquor, apples, water and some toiletries for your convenience. The beds are comfy and the bathroom is very fine too. The is even a little living room area with a sofa and a TV.

What else is on board?
You can find a restaurant with comfortable chairs. There you could stay as well, in case you don’t want to book a cabin. I found the food is so-so. Some nice sandwiches and toasts, but nothing very yummy. Outside there is also a bar with some plastic chairs and for some reason an old swimming pool with a net on top of it is out-of-use yet still there.

How do I book?
You can either go into the office on land or book online. Here is the link to their website in English: https://www.anek.gr/en/
Here’s also a video so you can have a better look.

About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
