The Latin-America expedition
The travel bug
Sometimes when you are sitting behind your desk working on your daily tasks or having a lunch with your friends you suddenly dream away of a new destination, a new experience, a new adventure. Recognizable?
Having already traveled to Mexico and Spain a number of times, and working in Kenya and visiting many other countries since I was seventeen, I have had the travel bug ever since. Young, ambitious, full of energy and eager to see the world.
With 23 years of age and about to graduate for my Bachelor’s degree, I decided to not wait any longer and take the plunge to travel to Latin-America by myself. From January to July 2014 I will travel from Argentina to Mexico and visit all the countries on route. While staying at homes of local people and exploring their cultures I write many articles about my experiences. I travel by myself as a so called flash-packer with electronics and this makes me able to share captivating travel media & stories with you guys.
favoroute
While thinking about many marvelous destinations in Latin-America I decided to plan a route. You know, just to have something to hold on to while traveling. That does not mean I will follow my route entirely. There still might be space for a few more destinations!
I wanted to be able to share my route with the world. At first I tried to plan my route on Google maps, but later on I found Favoroute. This website allows me to create a map with my travel route or as they call it “my favoroute”. Above you can find an image of my favoroute through Latin-America. It will be interactive as well in a while. Their website allows me to describe what I will do at these destinations, how many nights I want to spend there, what transport will get me everywhere and whether I like the place or not.

So in 2014 I will fulfill my dream: to explore Latin-America (see my online moodboard for this trip). The video below, made by 3 guys, makes it loud and clear why you should go there too an create your own adventure…
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
