I’ve been hearing these travel stories from other travelers, such as their adventures, stories about funny people they’ve met, just cool things and also stories of which I’m not sure if they’re actually true! I’ve decided to share them with you on a weekly base. So here’s the first travel-story that someone I met along the road has told me.

Paul Simpson, from Adelaide Australia, explained to me that he knew a girl who was traveling in Brazil. She was staying near the Ipanema beach and walking towards her hostel in the afternoon, or maybe it was in the middle of the night…, anyway, she was walking there by her self. At least, until she noticed that this young boy had been walking the same way ever since she started walking towards her hostel. She thought the young boy couldn’t do any harm and continued the walk with confidence. All out of a sudden the boy approaches her and says “bolsa, bolsa”, meaning purse. She told the boy NO, but the boy kept on repeating the same word and she just kept on telling him that she’s not going to give him her purse. Then the boy put his index finger and his middle finger into the bottom of his shirt as if it were a gun. The funny thing was that she saw the trick he was trying to pull off, so she just laughed at him and kept on walking. Nothing bad happened and she got back to her hostel safely.

And so she traveled happily ever after!

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
