The incatrail by motorcycle #Day 3
The first and the second day of my Incatrail motor trip have been pretty intense. Today should be the day where I get to drink lots of great coffee during many nice breaks and have amazing weather! And so it will be.
Locals
It all starts off good as I leave Santa Teresa after a lovely breakfast and drive towards Santa Maria. The road is fan-tas-tic. Many curves, a lot of small local villages where the people stare at me as if I’m from another planet and the most amazing view…
A never-ending battle with the weather
I reach Santa Maria where I have my first coffee and buy lots of chocolate because I’m this kind of junkie. The weather seems to remain hot and sunny today, so after our break I decide that it’s time to continue without our hot and sweaty motor pants. That feels so much better! I just wish it wouldn’t have started raining as it is doing, like, right now… Perhaps the good things don’t last forever, but still I got to enjoy those 5 fresh and dry minutes immensely.
Entering the cloud
I’ve reaching the cloudy mountains again and it seems as if I haven’t gotten a good night of rest because all out of a sudden I feel really sleepy. It might also be because of the long sit, but most likely it’s the altitude I’m at right now. The mist enters the helmets and it affects the sunglasses. I actually can’t see a thing. It’s time to remove the glasses and to get out of this misty area. As if I’m driving through a cloud.
Chocolate museum
I leave the mountains behind me and drive towards Ollantaytambo again. Ah yes, those beautiful Inca ruins. They are right in front of me. What a pretty sight. There must be a nice place here in the neighborhood with some good coffee, so I start looking for one. Guess what I find: a chocolate museum. They let you try out all kinds of chocolate as if you’ve got no idea how pure or white chocolate tastes like, so it’s pretty funny to hang around the museum for a while. By now it’s getting dark again and I need a place to stay. After a quick drive through Ollantaytambo I find the cutest little guesthouse ever and spend the night in a room with a view at those amazing Ollantaytambo Inca ruins.

About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
