I’m a cowgirl, on real horses I ride…
How great the feeling of galloping is, someone can only know once experienced. Today I found a company that has a 107 horses on their property and they are all taken good care of, but the best part is that they follow your lead. I was getting used to the typical tourism horse that will just follow the tourguide, but today I had my “own” horse and I could go as fast as I wanted. Finally!

In the morning I decided to pick up the phone and make a call to Haras Água Boa near Pipa. I was a bit unsure about doing this because of my fear of having to follow a group, but once I arrived at their “rancho” I realized it was a good decision to come here. The guide named Fabio and myself were the only ones on the tour and we agreed on one hour of horse riding through the farmers lands. I asked him after five minutes if it would be okay to go a bit faster and he confirmed that it was no problem. After another five minutes I asked if gallop would be alright and again he told me that it is okay. So there I went… with a lot of speed, for about one hour. I only had to stop here and there to wait for Fabio to see if I was still galloping into the right direction. Super fun!

Why did I ever stop horse riding when I was younger? It is so much fun! Ah yes, it was because of the need to travel… I used to ride horses almost every day when I was about 10 years younger than I am now, but I still love to go for a ride wherever I can.
Here are two pictures of how innocent I still was back then. Ah, good old times. Me and my horses.
Did you do some horse riding when you were a kid? Or are you practicing this sport right now? Do you also tend to skip on the horse riding activities abroad because of the possible “group following”?
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
