Artwork in Buenos Aires

Artwork in Buenos Aires

What do you do on a rainy day in Buenos Aires? Right! Enter an art museum in Recoleta!
After my cancelled bike tour due to the bad weather that just kept on being present I decided to hit the art road of Buenos Aires.

You will find a lot of art museums in Recoleta. The first one I bumped into was the Centro Cultural Recoleta. The building has wide hallways with many drawings and photos hanging on the walls, spacious rooms with many different kinds of artwork and various patios with exhibitions.

I have no idea what it is, but, it looks kind of nice!

When you leave the Centro Cultural Recoleta and cross the road you’ll find the Palais de Glace. What I find kind of strange is that the artworks are not protected by any glass or not even a little fence. You could touch everything, not that you should, but the museums in Argentina seem to trust its visitors.

The local security explains to me that every year artist give an artwork to the museum for some sort of competition. The one artwork that wins will get a prestigious spot at the national art museum of Buenos Aires.

I really love the idea of using an old map for this piece of art

The entrance at these museums is for free, so even when you are traveling with a small budget you can stroll around in the Buenos Aires museums.

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
