Tonight it’s time for the real Argentine experience! Finally! Something to do with a lot of meat, empanadas, wine cocktails and loads of fun with “buena onda” people! How I’ve been longing for this!

my first real wine cocktail

Ever heard of Wine Cocktail Mixology? I had never before tonight. I’m not talking about something like Sangria or such, because this is different. It’s a mix of wine (red, white or even rosΓ©), liquors and a bit of grenadine. During the evening we get to see examples of three wine cocktails the staff of the Argentine Experience invented and later on you get to try them all. During the sampling some appetizers are staring at you until you get that delicious glass of a wine cocktail in your hand and you try the combination of great food and drinks. The wine cocktail you like most will be the one you’ll learn to make yourself later on. It was quite difficult to choose, but I loved the red wine Malbec cocktail!

Empanada cooking class

In Argentina everyone eats empanadas. It’s a kind of bread with normally ham and cheese, meat, or onions and cheese inside of it. I eat these things daily now and it would be fantastic to be able to make them myself when I’m in another country where they don’t sell this addictive stuffed bread. What we get to enjoy tonight is to learn making them by ourselves. We get an instruction on the folding of the empanada and it’s up to you what you want to put as stuffing. Once we’ve all made our own first hand made empanada they’ll go to the oven and we have some time left to do something else before we can actually eat them. So why not start a competition on making another empanada, but this time a creative one! Everyone gets 15 minutes to create the best looking empanada and the winner will win a price!

Dinner time!

The guys explain us how to ask a waiter at a restaurant to prepare your steak the way you like it. I wanted it “muy jugoso”, meaning medium rare. Accompanied with a lot of other typical Argentinean food you’ll have the best meal ever, but what’s really the best is that you get un-li-mi-ted wine…!

Time for some mate and home made cookies

After eating a lot of typical Argentinean food and drinking too much wine it’s time for a local drink: mate. A kind of tea. I’ve seen it everywhere I go in this country, so it has to be part of the Argentina experience too!

We all get our own mate cup with bright colors and one of the guys shows us how to prepare our own mate. Some chocolate cookies are part of the dessert and we get to make these by ourselves as well! By the time we get to that point I’m already a bit to tipsy to be making my own mate or cookie, so I’ll just stick to the amazingly good tasting – all-you-can-drink – red wine.

This might have been my best spend night in Buenos Aires and I can’t wait to hopefully try this concept in other countries! If you’re around and you want to have a blast with good local food, drinks they’ve never heard of in other countries and great people by your side, then I highly, highly recommend you to go for The Argentine Experience. Enjoy yourself in Buenos Aires and discover the local culture!

Having fun with the all the Argentine Experience people :-)

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
