An adventurous heart and the right choices

Which temple should I explore next? – Palenque, Mexico

Stressing out over choices – it happens more than you’d think. However, I’m not stressing out over my past nor future choices. Even if I didn’t decide yet about my current possibilities.

It should only be a matter between the good choice and the even better choice.”

Consider your options

Today I am thinking about my future choices. I have a couple of options I have to consider before choosing and it’s a choice that will impact my life for the coming year(s). Of course you know what I am talking about; a new and definitely wonderful destination! Should I go here, there or elsewhere?

I am in love with the Latin cultures, have an underrated crush on the Mediterranean countries and an adventurous heart for the unknown. As you can tell this already provides me with way to many options for destinations.

Now I’ve been asked to work at Karpathos (Greek island) for the following six months whilst a few days ago I got another amazing destination brought to my ears. Egypt. For a year and with more responsibilities. It’s the same company though, so no worries about disappointing too many people on that matter. It might sound funny, but I’m comparing the two places I can go to as if they were my two best friends and I had to choose one of them to be my maid of honer. Silly huh? Well, I guess that’s the heaviness of this choice for me.

Have the discussion with yourself

I started comparing the places two days ago and it has turned to be like my own little research. Comparing the jobs, the challenges, the local cultures (food!) and the entire impact it has on my lifestyle. First I sent a text message to my dad, who of course begins with the worries I should have about current dangerous topics. Followed by another text message, but this time for my sister who can only reply with an optimistic “sounds like another good holiday place to me!”. I then decide to put out a Facebook status asking people if they’d go for their holiday to Egypt, which is answered soon by positive and negative thoughts that don’t really help me to make up my mind. In the meanwhile friends and family have their opinion ready and just one of my friends tells me that I already know where I want to go to, but I’m not realizing it. Conclusion is, I’d better just keep discussing this choice with myself rather than asking more opinions as I’m the one who has to work with the choice I will make.

Words like food, safety, respect, freedom, surfing, diving, temperatures, diversity, coziness and language are on my mind today.

I’m still working on my little research and the coming week I’ll draw my conclusion. If you feel like influencing my choices, you can try by dropping a comment below 😉

Sometimes we get worried that we might make the wrong choice instead of the good one and other times we can’t make up our minds on picking the good choice or the better choice. “

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
