Such an exciting day! Today I’m going to the reef. I totally hated it the other day when I had to walk into the sea at another beach with the rocks beneath my feet and I got pretty much scared of the idea of surfing on the reef due to my previous reef experiences. However, I wanted to give it another try and so I decided that today would be my reef surfing adventure!

Today I’m up for it. Surfing at the reef. I don’t really even know anymore why I was getting so nervous yesterday when now Marco, our surf instructor, explains the way how to peddle into the sea and it really doesn’t seem that bad at all. It’s actually pretty easy. You see, the reef is located in a bay and it creates a channel that will make it easier for you to peddle into the sea. You can peddle out to the line up without getting exhausted because the channel is where the ocean floor is deeper than the reef, so there is nothing to force the wave up.

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
