Dear Bikini, it’s time we have a talk.

I wore you around for over two years, basically anywhere. You helped me, as I jumped off bridges into rivers, to overcome my fears.

You were there for me when I needed your support and even kept up with my attitude as I roled around in the mud. Well, I was quite sure you would always be there for me even if I would ever get into a flood.

I will never forget the day you arrived to my house for the very first time,
You were red and full of stripes, but these started fading after drinking to many Caipirinhas on the Brazilian beach. You know, those drinks with lots of cachaça and lime?

I think we have been together for about three years, knowing someday you would have to leave me and that I would continue without tears.

Another bikini had catched my eye after you left me almost naked on the beach. You got smaller and smaller and no, I haven’t gotten bigger, but you were just too small for me and surfing together became impossible as often you got far out of my reach.

Thank you for the lovely time we spent together. Especially for the Nicaraguan poolparties, the Brazilian mudbaths, the Costa Rican surfsessions, the dives in Panama and the jumps from Mexican waterfalls. Know that all those memories will last forever.

However, yesterday you broke my heart. Again you were not in the mood and left me all alone at the swimmingpool, in the jacuzzi part. I know you have gotten to old to join me on the waterslides, and even though again we tried it’s time to say our goodbyes.

Thank you bikini!

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
