Here you do relax!

It’s still wintertime, but the summer is coming and I can almost feel the sand between my toes. I am on a quest. Should I stay or should I go? If I go, where do I go next? The list is long and it will take me a while before I can all strike it through. Mexico or Greece perhaps, or Australia? What about Brazil? I am actually loving Italy. It’s about time to start planning some sort of new trip! I hope I can afford it, but I am sure the internet searches will do me good.

Thank you internet!

Don’t you just love it when you open your internet browser to just do something you have to do for five minutes and realize an hour later you’re still looking through those inspirational quotes, holiday photos and travel deals? I find myself doing this all the time and it makes me feel like a bit of a dreamer. Well maybe I am, but then also I can say I always make my dreams come true. It just costs me a bit of online time and off I go. With the comfort of some online holiday search engines it becomes real easy.

Sometimes I stay a bit longer at places than you normally would and then luckily some friends and family decide to bring me a visit. I normally check the travel possibilities for them, since they assume I’m better with organizing their trip as I travel so often. However, it’s really, really simple. I use trivago.com to find a hotel for example, which allows me to compare the prices and even filter my results on the budget. I normally also look at a few reviews at Zoover.com to make sure I choose the right accommodation and what’s also pretty important is to check the location of this foreign home to be on the map. You probably don’t want to be walking into town every day for 20 minutes. Airbnb.com is also a great website when you’d like to stay with locals. Trivago recently provided a bunch of online booking tips that can come in quite handy for travelers who want to book a hotel online and I decided to share them all here with you.

Tips for booking online

  1. Read reviews (as mentioned earlier)
Positive and negative reviews from previous guests might help you get a better idea of the hotel.
  2. Know which facilities you find important in your hotel
We don’t all want the same thing, so check if they have WiFi, a swimming pool, a gym or whatever you’re looking forward to.
  3. Check the location (as mentioned earlier)
if you’re going on wintersport you’d probably want the hotel to be located near a skipiste and if you’re going for a city trip you’d want it to be located near the city center.
  4. Use filter options for better search results
Filters can save you a lot of time! If you’re looking for a hotel in a big city a filter can take away many hotels you won’t be interested in.
  5. Check different check-in and check-out dates
An event can make the cheapest hotel an expensive one…
  6. Make sure to select the right room
Single or Double? Standard? Superior? Suite?
  7. Don’t focus on the hotel stars
Looking for a luxurious place? Then stars can help. Otherwise it might be better to simply rely on the popularity of the hotel.
  8. Choose the right destination at the right moment
School holidays will be more costly and the same goes for beach holidays in summer and wintersport between November and February.
  9. Check what’s included
Is your breakfast included? Do you have to pay for internet?
  10. Compare several booking websites
Prices can vary on different websites, so use a search engine that shows you several booking websites.

Have you got any tips for booking online? What’s on your travel agenda this summer?

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
