Inspire, amuse and inform others, that is what I and many other contributors like to do with our stories, but how do we actually like to spend the summer days ourselves? Verkeersbureaus.info asked 2 contributors to answer that queston: Sandra van Bijsterveld en myself, Renate Rigters.

How do you spend your summer days?

Sandra: “I like to make trips and go on a holiday with my family. That is the way I get a lot of inspiration for my blog.”
Renate: “Sand in my hair, salt in the air…on the beach, enjoying the sea view. It does not matter where, but that is the way my favorite summer days look like. Preferably with a colorful board which I can take surfing, but when there is more wind than waves, I will go windsurfing.”

How do you like to reach that destination?

Sandra: “If I go with my family, we go by car. On my own I prefer to travel with public transport, so that meanwhile I can do some reading.”
Renate: “I love going to Huatulco in Mexico, where I prefer to arrive with the propellor plane departing from Mexico City.”

What do you like to read during your holiday?

Sandra: “Travel guides and other books that are inspiring for my business and myself. I still prefer paper, because that remains legible despite sand, wetness and bright sunshine.”
Renate: “I like to read a novel about the place where I am, such as ‘La cathedral del mar’ in Barcelona. If I can not find a novel prior to my trip, then I will buy a book at the airport. In Kenya, I bought the book Hotel Babylon and I kept it as a souvenir. Such a booklet give me a reliving of the trip afterwords, because the pages often take some seasalt back home.”

WHat do you listen to?

Sandra: “I love foreign languages, so I like to listen to locals when they speak their own language and then try to follow as much as possible.”
Renate: “I enjoy listening to the sounds of nature around me, the tropical noises of the sea, birds, rain showers sound best.”

Are you online or offline during a vacation?

Sandra: “I prefer to be online, but less than at home. I like to share things with others and to follow others, but I want to experience during the vacation and I do not want to look at a screen the entire time.”
Renate: “I am both online and offline. I always search for some Wi-Fi spots, but I normally do not contract any overseas internet for my Iphone. I can Twitter, Facebook and send e-mails through Wi-Fi spots. Experiencing my holiday is something I want to do at the moment while being there, the sharing of my experiences is something I often do in the evening or the next morning.”

What gets you inspired during a holiday?

Sandra: “Beautiful places, interesting facts, locals and customs. And not to forget: the peace in my head when I am traveling.”
Renate: “The local people! I love the differences that exist between me and the locals; the things they articulate differently and the way they treat me. It gives me inspiration to discover another culture of to get to know this one better.”

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
