A gastronomical boat trip in Brazil
Brazil has a lot more to offer on its coastal destinations than just hanging out at the beach getting a tan. I cruise from Pipa to Tibao do Sul along the Atlantic Ocean with Maria-Maria, a gastronomical boat trip.

“Another dolphin you say! Where?” “On your right this time! Go get your camera!” Another tourist and I are telling each other while we enter the Lagoa de Guarairas where hundreds of dolphins show their happiness by jumping through the waves. Each morning the dolphins appear at this place. Today I have the luck of seeing many dolphins.
We pass the beautiful beaches of Pipa such as Praia de Golfinhos and Praia de Madeiro where you can observe the friendly dolphins right next to you while you are surfing the waves. At a swimming stop, to jump from the boat into the sea, one of the ladies is afraid of getting to close to the dolphins, but no worries, over here it is very safe to swim. Even with the dolphins around.
Crabs beach
In the middle of the lagoa you can find a beach. How weird, right? The Maria-Maria boat pulls out the anchor so that we can go for a walk on this lovely beach. The best part is that there are tons of crabs walking on this beach. Once I approach them they quickly hide themselves into the sand or walk sidewards into the water which looks amazingly cute. I think I should try to catch one and a couple I met on the boat feels the same way. We decide to go for a beautiful blue crab and finally succeed to let hold him in our hands – of course afterwards we release him again into the warm waters where he came from.

All aboard! It’s time for a lot of culinary delights and there is also still some more sunshine left on deck.
I am happy that I did not have a big breakfast nor a small bite in the morning, because I am seeing so many delicious things being prepared. It is what I like to call a carefree culinary cruise. Hanging out the entire day on a cool boat, with some nice people around you, an enormous amount of food, unlimited drinks, many stops at beaches and dolphins swimming around you.
Just to tease you again here are some photos of what I ate today…
After the fan-tas-tic lunch it’s time for some more beaches, spotting local fishermen and probably a nap on the boat’s deck. What a great day! So relaxed and well organized, with the best of the local culture, cuisine and beaches. Pipa can proudly say “Bom apetite!”
*The gastronomical boat tour was provided by Maria-Maria Passeio do Galego in Pipa. (+55 84 9604 2025, Facebook Passeio Maria-Maria, passeio.mariamaria@hotmail.com) Cost Brazilian Real $150.
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
