Brazilian waves of emotions
You are laying in the water, with your knees facing the bright sun while you clench the rope handle with your wet hands. A black with green colored Master boat starts pulling you with a rope and you are trying to stand up, get a grip and surf the waves with your wake board. An exhilarating feeling enters when you finally get on your feet and play with this wet and wild water sport.
Wakeboarding is a fairly easy sport to learn. “If my wife can do it, anyone can do it” the captain of the boat says when I put my feet into the shoes of the wakeboard. I jump into the water with the board attached to my feet and receive the last instructions before I can give it a go. Look up at the sun, bend your knees and stretch your arms. Alright, I think I am ready. I tell the captain “pronto” while he turns on the engine of the boat and I try to remember what I have to do. The force of the boat pulling you is difficult at the begin but after you try it a couple of times you will get the feeling and it will work. I let go of the handle a couple of times at first, but soon I get this sense of freedom once I manage to stand up, hold on to the handle and officially wakeboard!
Barra do Cunhaú
Barra do Cunhaú is a beautiful village which lies at just 12km from the popular holiday destination Pipa. With friendly locals and a lot of tranquility it is the perfect place to spend a day at the beach. At the Barra do Cunhaú yacht club you will find the company Wake’n’Fun which was initiated by a Frenchman named Thierry Hummel. After seeing his sun enjoying the wakeboarding so much in France he got passionate about creating the possibility to practice this sport near their favorite holiday destination in Brazil: Pipa. The company is managed by the Argentine Alberto Yantorno who has been in the watersports world his entire life and provides clear and safe instructions during the activities. Wake’n’Fun is the first company that offers these services in the entire State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
JetSurf
Wakeboard, wakesurf, standup, and even jetsurf. Jetsurf? Yes! JetSurf! You might have never heard of this sport before since it is relatively new on the water sports market. It is a high tech motorized surfboard which allows you to manage your speed timings while riding a wave.
Our dream is to have all the water sports that exist in this world. Next month we will have the new electric surfing, which originates from Germany and is called Waterwolf! We are also getting ready for the Flyboard experience which we will offer within the next 6 months”,
thus Thierry Hummel.
A fun work out
The slogan “ondas de emoções” fits the company Wake’n’Fun perfectly because the activities provide a lot of adrenaline that you might forget it is also quite physical and that the next day you are in for some muscle pain (wakeboarding is a full-body workout and it particularly targets your arm, leg and upper-back muscles). All in all a fantastic and fun work out that truly deserves a spot in your holiday agenda while visiting Pipa.
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
