So okay, did I even realize I’m in Brazil? I mean, I’m in paradise. I’m at a place nearly everyone wants to be. Sun, sea, beaches, culture and Cai-pi-rinhaaaas! I should also not forget to mention that I have all the time in the world and that I can stay longer if I want to.

Not wanting to be here yet? Alright, I’ll try to explain myself again.

I am staying in a place where I have a huge bed entirely to myself and breakfast is ready every morning with scrambled eggs and lots of coffee. My room gets cleaned and so I have to do almost nothing to keep it nice and tidy. The people are amazingly nice and they speak a beautiful language: Portuguese!

Still no jealous feelings? Okay, okay. I’ll give it my best shot now!

In the morning I wake up whenever I want to and I make a nice walk to the beach. At the beach two locals are waiting for me (every single morning) to teach me some more surfing and they are really friendly and helpful. After my surf session I get a bit hungry and a walking restaurant passes by on the beach. Yes. You read that right. A walking restaurant. Ice-cream, sandwiches, something with meat on a stick, you name it. It’s all available from your beach towel. The hot shower in the afternoon gives a great feeling too and did I already mention there are Caipirinhas???

Welcome to Búzios, Brazil. It’s paradise! Cheers, or, saúde!

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.

So jealous, I went to Brazil a few summers ago for 3 weeks with only a 10 days in Rio and it definitely wasn’t long enough
