Flaming in Jamaica

Irie mon!
says the barman when I order a Bob Marley shot while he is still playing with his almost empty bottles. He prepares a shot full of colorful layers (red, yellow, and green) that do not mix with each other. He pulls a lighter out of his pocket, hands me a straw and tells me to drink the shot as fast as I can after he has set the drink on fire. All the other bartenders start jamming and singing while I try to be a big girl and drink the flaming Bob Marley. What a great way to start my Caribbean holiday!
I am staying in a lovely all-inclusive resort, but actually I prefer to go outside and see the real Jamaica. So I will, while trying to decide whether I should go to the grave of Bob Marley or to his home: Kingston town.
Which one would you go to? Bob’s home in Kingston or his resting place in the village Nine Mile?
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.

Hi, wat leuk, is dit live vanuit Jamaica? Ik ga eind november! Have fun. π
Jaloers! Jamaica is zooooo’n onwijs toffe bestemming! Ik ben er in 2006 en 2007 geweest en het staat nog hartstikke vers in mijn geheugen. Helaas zit ik vandaag ‘gewoon’ thuis met de verwarming lichtjes aan π Heel veel plezier alvast eind november! π
