Health hacks for how to stay healthy while traveling

How to live a healthy lifestyle while you’re on the go
Living life road tripping, backpacking or even working abroad can be full of fun and adventure, but it often lets you think of excuses to forget about healthy habits. My nomadic lifestyle is one with irregular working hours and it is important, yet difficult, to stay focused on health. A few weeks ago I got in touch with a company called Cotopaxi, who created an infographic with several health hacks. To promote overall health and wellness I also wrote a few of my own health hacks.
For your next adventure abroad or maybe even tomorrow when a brand new day start back home, think about the following health hacks.
Mind
Relax your mind
Meditate. Meditate. Meditate. If you can’t do any meditation, then a simple walk through the park, town or to the beach might be the perfect moment for you to stop over thinking. Just let the thoughts pass by while your eyes are distracting you with new inputs. One lovely app I can recommend for you to download is ‘Headspace‘. It talks to you and tells you what to think of and which thoughts to let go. They describe it as a gym membership for the mind. Also great for when you’re on the road. Works for me.
Body
Stay hydrated
Possibly one of the most forgotten things during the day is drinking enough water. I’m not talking about zipping on your 500 ml bottle of water throughout the whole day. You need at least a few liters to stay hydrated. Don’t forget; your body is on average existing out of 60% water.
Take time for breakfast
First of all, it really has an impact on your weight if you skip on breakfast. Second of all, it satisfies your appetite so you won’t crave for food at night. And not to forget, you’re body gets energy in the morning so that it can be spent throughout the day when you need to be active.
Be active
Go for a 20 minutes yoga class through YouTube, get your groceries by foot, take the bike instead of the car, go for a small hike in the afternoon. Every day you could do something that makes your heartbeat go faster a little. Even a small exercise will make you feel better. Spend some energy and you’ll notice that you’ll get twice the energy back for it.
SouL
Have fun
I believe that the best is to get our there and be outside. Even when you have nothing to do. Just step outside and explore a bit. Sometimes though all we need is love. We can easily forget to take a bit of “me-time”, but love for yourself is also very important. Take a break and read a book or do something else you really enjoy.

About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
