The question ‘what does that wanderlust mean’ pops up quit frequently with people hearing the name of my website, so I should answer you with its significance.

Wan·der·lust is a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world.

That does not sound to difficult I guess, but to give you a better explanation of this German word here is the following info.

Stamp collectors

Your passport only accompanies you for 5 years and then you have to say goodbye to it and welcome your new buddy for the next five years. All this time you are collecting stamps, but then you have to start all over again! Why do we do that? And why do we like to do that?
It is probably the same thing as with stamps from postcards. It is something that you can touch. Something that reminds you of an experience and brings a bit of localness with it.
Sometimes a tattoo with a local figure is a good souvenir too by the way. I know someone who collects countries inked on his back.

Repeater or explorer?

Some people enjoy going back to that lovely resort where they went last summer, with those nice people working at the bar. Others like to get to know a new place, with new impressions and new experiences.
To be honest, personally, I enjoy both. I love going back to Huatulco and of course I have been to other places several times as well, but discovering something new is much more exciting and I am always in for a new discovery with new destinations.

Just imagine yourself, you could leave tomorrow, money is none of your concern, where would you be going?

To those who stay put,

the world is but an imaginary place,

but to the movers, the makers,

and the shakers,

the world is all around them,

an endless invitation

About Renate Rigters

Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
