12 tips to make you happier in the New Year
1. Be happy with less.
Start counting all the things, all the materialism, you have. You don’t need more shoes. Be happy with what you’ve got. It’s easier to live with less stuff and happiness is not gained through belongings.
2. Put your creativity on paper.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s drawing, painting, writing or chords to a song, put it somewhere.
3. Eat more fish and vegetables.
Instead of meat. It’s good for the body.
4. Start planning what you really want in life.
You’ll never be as young as you are right now and ‘someday’ is not on the calender.
5. Help people you don’t know.
Wouldn’t it be great if someone would help you when you needed it?
6. Spend more time with friends and family instead on Facebook.
The best gift you can give and get is time.
7. Be honest to others and yourself.
Honesty will make life easier.
8. Cut down on the booze.
It will make you live healthier and that annoying cold you normally get after the weekend won’t dare to come.
9. Create your own path.
Stop following the herd and decide what you like best and what you feel like doing.
10. Start running.
It saves you money you would normally spend on the gym and you can enjoy being outdoors.
11. Accept criticism.
Think of it as holding a mirror in front of yourself more often and you’ll see that what people were telling you wasn’t to hurt you, but to improve things.
12. Explore a new place. Do something new.
It’s very exciting to do discoveries. Whether it’s moving to a new city, traveling to a new country, trying out a different kind of food or smiling to strangers.
About Renate Rigters
Ever since I left my home country I felt at home at any other place I went to. I enjoy getting to know more cultures by talking to strangers and hearing their philosophy about life. Speaking with gestures when you can not find a shared language, finding places only the locals go to and learn about their customs and values. Hanging out with local people makes me happy. The experience of every new place is a step out of your comfort zone where I like to wander around until it feels like a second home.
